The Face of Brisbane Nudgee Beach -This bayside suburb of Brisbane was selected due to its unusually high median age - 58 years. It possesses one of the highest median ages in Australia compared to the national median of 35 years. A statistical analysis of the community was undertaken, using the relevant ABS census data. The specific ages and ethnic origin of the participants were identified and community networks were used to recruit the 100 participants who were required to represent the community.
The Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre and the Emmaus Aged Person Home were used as a location for the temporary photo-studio. The shooting of the portraits occurred over 2 days; participants were required to sign a Model Release Form which includes their contact details. This information is stored on a data base and was used to invite participants to the final exhibition. This mailing list expands and enhances already existing mailing lists. Finally as gesture of thanks participants all receive, at no cost to them a copy of their individual portrait.
